One of my favorite memories with my grandma are when she would pull out one or two of her many photo albums and we would sit on the couch together and go through them while she told stories. She was the historian in our family and always printed her photos. Several years before she passed away she carefully put all her prints into albums, labeled and dated the pages. She said she did this so that after she was gone our family wouldn’t forget and would know who all these people (our family) were in those old black and white images. She was a smart lady. I was lucky enough to inherit all of her albums and these are some of my most precious material belongings.
Who is the historian in your family? Perhaps it’s you, but you’ve got to get in front of the camera too. Do it for your kids, do it for your family history. Time is passing so quickly and a photograph has a way of freezing our memories when sometimes we are so busy that life feels like a blur. Kids grow so fast and memories fade but when you have an image to remind you, it just has a way of bringing you back to a precious moment in time. To me, that is priceless!
